The “Mihrab” Tower (Alhambra)
Short description of the monument

This tower was built at the right hand side of the “Damas” Tower. In the interior there is an oratory used by those who lived in the palace next to this tower. In 1932 it recovered its original aspect after an unfortunate restoration in the 19th century.

The façade, which has a horseshoe arch at the center, still has the decorative plasterworks. The inside room is divided into two different rooms by a semicircular arch. The “mihrab”, with a jointed wooden ceiling, is very similar to those of the north African mosques. The horseshoe arch embellished with “muqarbas” (decorative motif characteristic of the Moslem architecture, based on vertically juxtaposed bows or prisms) has a carved inscription that says: <>
