Carmen de los Mártires -- Technical Sheet
Carmen de los Mártires
According to the tradition, this place was constructed over the old underground dungeons for Christian captives in “nazarie” times. After the city had been conquered by the Catholic Kings, this place was converted into a convent for Carmelite nuns, where “St. Juan de la Cruz” was prior for some years. Its actual aspect corresponds to that of the 19th century, and we can appreciate the oriental tendencies of that period. The gardens are a mixture of styles, French and English, and combined with the aesthetic of the gardens in Andalusia.
