History
The Basilica of San Juan de Dios, on the street of the same name in Granada, was built in the mid-18th century.
It is a true jewel of Baroque art, commissioned by Fray Alonso de Jesús y Ortega.
Its treasures include gold and silver ornaments, magnificent murals and altarpieces, lamps and cornucopias. The altarpieces are extremely beautiful, especially the high altar, where the remains of Saint John of God rest in a silver urn inside a camarín (a small chapel behind the altar).
